A Review of LDS Products and LDS Gifts: Of Pigs, Pearls, and Prodigals: A Fresh Look At the Parables of Jesus a book by John Bytheway
The new book,
Of Pigs, Pearls & Prodigals a Fresh Look at the Parables of Jesus by John Bytheway is the newest of his books that takes a new look at old information.
I think anyone who has read or listened to John Bytheway usually feels safe in buying anything he has to offer. This book is no different.
His humor and self-deprecating manner are charming, but the insight and personal feelings shared in this book make it a treasure for those who read it.
He addresses 32 parables of the Savior. Each one will give you an added insight to exactly what the Lord was trying to teach his disciples then and now. This would make a good LDS Gift for youth and adult alike.
The book retails for anywhere from $17.79 – $20.00 . It’s one of those books that you don’t want to check out of the library, because you’ll want to re-read it and mark it up. It can be found at most LDS Online Bookstores.
LDS Primary Theme “I Know the Scriptures Are True” Activity Ideas.
The 2011 LDS Primary Theme is “I Know the Scriptures Are True.”
Every Ward Primary is asked to hold four activities this year. One idea would be:
Each of the four activities this year could center around a different book of scripture. There are so many Scripture Heroes to choose from.
entering around the Bible, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price and the Book of Mormon.
This is a great opportunity to familiarize the children with the personalities in each of these books of scripture. I would save the Book of Mormon for warm weather. You could have some type of archery event with Nephi’s bow. You could also have two teams, the Jaradites and the Nephites racing to cross the great waters.
The Bible Activity could include a maze to get Daniel out of the Lion’s Den. Daniel could also practice with a sling shot to hit Goliath.
The Pearl of Great Price activities could be wrapping up a mummy or making your own papyrus. You could also make a small model of the sacred grove.
Doctrine and Covenants activities ideas could be building a Nauvoo out of toilet paper rolls or cardboard boxes. You could divide up in groups and pack up a wagon and see how hard it would be to relay from one side of the cultural hall to the other.
You can come up with lots of different ideas. The people in the scriptures were real and they were awesome! Get pictures of them if you can and help the kids understand who they were and why they did what they did.
Have Fun!
A Review of LDS Products and Gifts: CTR Bubble Rings, fun for LDS Activities or Parties.
CTR Rings can now be Made to Order by You! – Sort of.
I bought one of these kits for my daughter’s Birthday Party. Actually I bought two of them. The kids really liked them. It was a nice craft for her party and it wasn’t really messy.
My daughter was turning 12 when we used the rings and all of the girls seemed to like them. I even had my other kids wanting one. (the teenagers). They cost less than $5.00 for the kit. That isn’t bad. All of the supplies come with the kit. Just make sure you have a place to let them dry once they’ve been painted. The only thing I didn’t like is that the rings are not adjustable. So you just have to find the finger that it fits on. I had one that went on a pinky finger.

LDS Provident Living Experiment: Food Storage what’s for Dinner Chilli and Corn Bread
If you want to use your food storage tonight for dinner, here’s today’s suggestion:
Canned Chilli – you’ve gotta use it sometime.
But to give your meal that, I care about you so I made something special flair, here’s and easy and really good corn bread recipe:

3 Cups White Flour
1 1/3 Cup Sugar
2 Tablespoons Baking Powder
1 teaspoon Salt
Mix this together and then add:

4 eggs
2 1/2 Cup Milk (milk made from powder is fine too.)
mix together well and then put it in a oblong cake pan at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Check on it periodically after 25 minutes. All ovens are a little different. It should be slightly brown.

LDS Provident Living: Eating your food storage tip for the day. Crock Pots are awesome!
As a mother of six and trying to operate a business out of my home, I’m a little busy. No matter how busy I am I still hear the moaning of small and large children (including my spouse) asking me “what’s for dinner?” They all come home hungry and I’ve spent the day snacking on slices of bread and leftovers while sipping on water or diet cola. Planning a great menu has been at the bottom of my list of things to do. I’m actually very grateful for this project I’ve taken on this year with this blog, because it makes me be better. So in trying to come up with something, I’ve found this little pot in the back of my pantry. I’m still looking for recipes that use lots of my food storage, but I’ve already figured out a few.
8 peeled and cubed average sized potatoes
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup water
1 cup peeled and sliced carrots
1/2 package onion soup mix – If you store it in bulk I think it would be about 1 1/2 Tablespoons .
Slow cook it in your crock pot add a green salad and any kind of meat if you want to.

Review of LDS Products: When buying an LDS Temple Dress or any Dress Online check the Sizing Chart!
When trying to buy an LDS Temple Dress or any clothing online, try to check the sizing chart. The LDS Online Store or whatever store you are ordering from should have a chart that gives the measurement of the article in inches. That type of chart is better than one that simply gives a size. Sizes can vary from one seamstress, pattern and store to another, but inches stay the same. An inch is the same in every store.
The Laura Temple Dress pictured here has two different sizing charts. The first one will give you is based on dress sizes:
Generally our sizes coincide with the following dress sizes:
xxsmall- 0-2 xsmall- 4-6 small-8-10 medium-12-14 large-16-18 Xlarge-20-22 xxlarge- 24
That information can be helpful, but the following chart is what you’re looking for:
| Laura | ||||||||
| Size | 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 | 10 | 12 | 14 | 16 |
| Bust | 33-35″ | 35-36.5″ | 36.5-38″ | 38-39.5″ | 38-39.5″ | 39.5-42″ | 42-43.5″ | 43.5-45.5″ |
| Waist | ||||||||
| Hip | 37.5″ | 38.5″ | 40″ | 42″ | 45″ | 48″ | 49″ | 50″ |
| Sleeve Length | 23″ | 23″ | 23″ | 23″ | 23″ | 23″ | 23″ | 23″ |
| Shoulder to Shoulder | 14″ | 14″ | 15″ | 15.5″ | 15 3/4″ | 16.5″ | 17″ | 18″ |
| Back Length | 53″ | 54″ | 53″ | 55″ | 54″ | 55″ | 55″ | 55″ |
That information should help you to make a better informed choice. Remember that all dresses don’t flatter all body types and make sure any LDS Online Store or any Online Store has a good return policy. Don’t let Online shopping scare you. Have some fun!

LDS Product Review: LDS Baptism Dresses for Young Girls- Look for Something Pretty that Washes Well.
Every little girl who gets baptized wants to wear a pretty white dress. As parents we would like that for them to help them remember how significant their baptism is. The problem is cost and quality. Nobody wants to buy a dress that falls apart after the first wash or shrinks.
If you look for LDS Baptism Dresses online you can find a few styles. Just make sure the fabric is washable and doesn’t need to be dry-cleaned.
I can handle my husband’s suits being dry cleaned, or some of my better dresses, but a child’s dress should go in the washer.
I like the dress I bought for my youngest daughter. It was made of a really nice washable satin.
The satin washed really well and stayed her favorite dress for many months. She had to grow out of it before it had the chance to wear out or show signs of wear. I was very pleased. This dress spent a lot of time in the washer and dryer yet it never shrank, frayed or ended up looking anything but pretty.
Both of the dresses pictured here can be found at LDS Online Stores for reasonable prices. Just make sure whatever you get the girl in question will be able to wear more than once.

LDS Parents, don’t be afraid to tell you children where your standards are. -what I’ve learned from my kids.
At my home we don’t watch that much t.v., but we do watch PBS kids and DVDs. I have older children who have their own favorite movie collections. They’ve invested their own money on their collections and the rules of our home are that rated ‘R’ movies are never allowed and PG 13 are questionable and definitely not for the kids under 13. The action scenes get the younger kids to wild. But even with these guidelines, I’ve been really wondering about some of the innuendo and romantic scenes that are in some of their videos. I know they’re trying and I hated to say anything because they really like some of these movies they’ve bought. But on Monday we talked about it for family home evening. We talked about even some of the Disney kid stars and how they dressed. Instead of getting defensive, they brought their movies up and showed us the ones they felt completely good about and those they thought they should pray about.
I was astonished that it was my husband and my opinion that mattered more to them than any of their friends. But, it’s the Lord’s opinion that mattered the most to them. If we’d have said nothing they never would have even questioned the standards of the media they’d been watching. I could make our kids adopt the Lord’s standards while they live in our house. It’s been so much more rewarding to watch our children desire to have the Lord’s standards as their own. But how would they know it matters unless we as parents let them know. If this is done with the spirit, the Lord will do the rest.

LDS Product Review: The Book of Mormon Movie- Read the Book!
The Book of Mormon Movie became available at LDS Bookstores a few years ago. It’s still being bought now. I think I speak for everyone who has seen the movie when I say, just read the book. I’ve always wanted to see what it would be like to have the Book of Mormon be made into a movie. The whole scope of the book would entail a Ten commandments kind of event. But the Book of Mormon Movie only had limited funds. I think they did the best with what they had. The problem is, in order to do story justice it would take so many more recourses than they had available. I’m glad my family and I watched it. Just don’t expect Charlton Heston. I would recommend the movie and rate it an order of fries. Tasty when you want to nibble, but not main course material. If you want a main course…..read the book.

LDS Provident Living Experiment: Living Large on Valentines Day!
Roses $25. Card $3. Chocolates $15. The look on your face when you’re overdrawn? Priceless! For those three items alone you’re talking $43. And the prices I quoted are cheap. It just goes up from there. That’s enough money to feed my family dinner for five days easy. Women, if these are the things you’re demanding of your husband….stop. I know you want to feel special and not forgotten. It’s time together that makes the big difference. Demand that! Demand that he take you to the temple or the library for some quiet time. If you need something in hand there are alternatives. You know the hand cut out card your kid makes in class, tell your husband you want him to make one of those. Tell him you want him to write you a poem all by himself. (Only a real man can do it. That’s why they chicken out and buy stuff.) Better than candy, ask him to make dinner and put the kids to bed. (That will separate the real men from the whiny boys.)
If buying all that stuff is really no problem to your budget, good for you. With most people, it can be. Be careful. But more than anything, do the sweet simple things that come from the heart. They mean more.

LDS Provident Living Experiment: Empty Your Freezer and Dinner is easy!
Yesterday I realized it was 4:00 and I hadn’t figured out what I was doing for dinner. My fifteen year old daughter opened the freezer and asked if she could have a few tater tots. I looked in that freezer and realized there was a lot of stuff we’d bought on sale and just sort of put there. So, she baked a whole large bag and they had them with quesadillas and carrot sticks. Odd dinner I know, but we were emptying the fridge and freezer. I have a lot of cheese and soft shell tortillas. The carrot sticks were so they didn’t get sick on all that fat.
I think maybe it would be a good idea to get an inventory of what I have in the freezer and then list in on the outside. I can mark off what I use as I use it. Freezer and Fridge inventory may end up being my project today. Yeah for me! But at least I’ll have a few more ideas about what to make for dinner.

LDS Product Review: Green Jell-o with Carrots – Is it really all that bad?
I’ve been trying to decide on what LDS Product to review. I’ve read quite a few books I still need to review. There are some necklaces and rings that I think you should probably steer away from. (cheaply made). There are also a few LDS Films and CDs. But how many of you have been avoiding green jello with carrots just because of the sigma? This is a real problem. You see, I like green jello with carrots. I understand why you can’t really call it lime jello. Taste it blind folded with a bunch of other colors and you’ll have a hard time telling them apart. During the 2002 Winter Olympics it even had its own Olympic pin. Mormons are renowned for their green jello and carrots, so have you tried some? If you think about the ingredients, it’s all good for you. The colors go well together. I think Aqua Man has the same color scheme going on. So if it’s good enough for a wet super hero it should be good enough for you.
I dare all of you to try to make some.
GREEN Jell-O WITH SHREDDED CARROTS
1 large package green gelatin
2 cups shredded raw carrots
Prepare gelatin according to package directions. Chill until partially set. Fold in carrots and allow to chill until firm.
That’s pretty cheap and good for you. What are you waiting for. I like to compare LDS Products to food, so I’ll compare this to Green Jello with Carrots.
LDS Product Review: Men of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir – Cool and Smooth like Good Ice Cream or My Husband’s old Pick up Lines.
The new CD, Men of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is awesome. The smooth voices and beautiful songs make me want to shut the door, turn off the light and just listen to the music. That’s just what I do when I want to relax with a good bowl of ice cream. The difference here is that I don’t have to worry about working off the calories latter. My husbands pick up lines might not have been quite that smooth, but I thought he was cool. I know when most people think of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir they think of their grandma and grandpa listening. Either I’ve become my grandparents, or the Choir has gotten a whole lot cooler. I choose to believe it’s the later. So if you’re not really into that kind of music or you haven’t been in the past, give it a try. How can anyone not like ice cream?

LDS Provident Living Experiment: Making the kids Cook using Food Storage. Let them hear you say “I don’t like that.”
I’m trying the best I can to avoid going to the store though out the week. We have enough food storage that we could make it for a year, but now we have to learn to eat what we have and rotate it. We supplement with fresh eggs, milk, vegetables and sale items at the store so the kids will eat what we have. But if you’re like me, you get sick of hearing the whining that goes with dinner because the kids don’t like what you’ve fixed and they want something else.
For the rest of this week my 13 and 15-year-old daughters are in charge of cooking dinner. The rules are that they have to use what we have in the pantry and dinner needs to be ready before 6pm. Last night they made a top ramen stir fry.
Soft ramen noodles sautéed in oil with cut up vegetables. (the girls found a cucumber, carrots and celery in the fridge) You then add some of the ramen seasoning.
They also had mashed potatoes from potato pearls and a can of corn. It was original and the two pickiest eaters in my house ate dinner because they made it. We’ll see what they plan for tonight. I can hardly wait.
LDS Product Review: Allegro CTR Ring- quick view of best prices
The Allegro CTR Ring is one of the more popular choices of CTR Rings out there. I think it’s because it appeals to both sexes. You can find the popular ring in most LDS Bookstores, both online and around the block.

LDS Provident Living Experiment: Finding Moments to Ponder
I read once that Lucy Hale Smith said her son Joseph wasn’t overly studious, but he pondered the things of the spirit continually. Finding that quiet time to ponder the things of the spirit can be difficult. There are so many louder things out there. Here are some places I’ve found that help me.
Driving in the car when nobody else is with me.
Taking a shower.
Working in my office.
Waiting in the car for my kids to get out of school/practices & everything else.
It’s important to have something good to ponder. The Book of Mormon, The Ensign, conference talks, Preach my Gospel and Teaching Manuals. It seems the only time I have to read these are in the morning when my husband is getting ready for work and I haven’t gotten the kids up for family prayer yet. I’m just trying to do the best I can with what I’ve got. Sometimes it feels like the widow’s mite. Maybe if I give what I can, it will be alright.

Glow in the Dark CTR Ring- Review of LDS Products and LDS Gifts
The CTR Ring that glows in the dark is a pretty cool little ring. The picture has a little more glow to it than I’ve seen. It does however glow in the dark and it’s easy to see. It’s a regular sized CTR Ring and can be found in most LDS Bookstores. I’ve checked online pricing for this ring and these are the results I get.
BuyLDS.com – $12.75
Latter Day Rings – $12.76
CTR4less – $14.30
LDS Stock – $14.35
CTRringsonline – $14.45
LDSphonebook – $14.45
CTRringshop – $15.95
I couldn’t even find on Deseret Book where they carried this ring. But in the past, when I’ve checked Deseret Book’s online ring prices against others, they are at full retail value every time so far.
LDS Temple Weddings
LDS Temple Weddings, just like LDS people are peculiar. Traditional wedding cakes will have a bride and groom sitting on top of the cake. LDS Temple Wedding Cake Toppers can be different.
LDS Temple Weddings usually have a statue of the LDS Temple the couple was married in on top of the wedding cake.
For some people it might seem a little strange, but these Glass LDS Temple Sculptures become family heirlooms and treasures.
Thanks to the internet and shipping sources, it’s not only a handful of members of the church who live in Utah that have access to these works of art. Every LDS Temple can be made into a Glass Temple Sculpture. For the young couple living in Boston, North Carolina

LDS Girl’s Baptism Dresses add a Fairy-like and Angel quality to your little girl.
Every little girl has a fairy like quality to her. They seem magical the way they can cast their spell. I remember my two oldest daughters dancing around the lawn in their white dresses with flowers in their hair. (I think they were dandelions). I don’t know that there is really anything more beautiful than a child.
Buy LDS Items or BuyLDS.com which one is it?
The LDS Online Market Place is very competitive and really a small market overall. There are LDS Online Stores everywhere and more coming every day. You’d think that because of the economy there would be a shortage, but it seems to have gotten larger.
